Servas - cultural exchange for travelers

If you love to travel and you haven't heard about Servas, you've come to the right place, because it's time you should. Basically Servas is a worldwide network of hosts that make traveling more personal and real by allowing travellers to stay with them and share in their life - free of charge. And if you aren't able to stay with them in their house, there are many Servas day hosts around the world who just want to meet you and show you around their city or town.

I have traveled and stayed with Servas hosts in Many countries, including France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, and Germany, and after April 2006, Mexico as well. I have visited universities in France, gone sking in the alps, and visited a tree nursery in Italy, all with gracious Servas hosts.

But don't take my word for it. Here it is in their own words:

What Is Servas?

Servas means "serve" in Esperanto, the international language; he said, it is the present tense of the verb "to serve". We serve thousand of people around the world, by opening doors to peace and understanding. Our hosts welcome. Share. Shelter. Our travelers seek. Learn. Experience. Both build a new knowledge, insight and tolerance. A peace movement. Founded on movement.

We are worldwide. Non-profit. Non-governmental. A co-operative network of hosts and travelers. 13,000 open doors, building world peace, goodwill, understanding and mutual tolerance. We seek to provide opportunities personal contacts between individuals of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
